My point, exactly.

I just finished posting my tribute of sorts to the late Cory Aquino when a colleague sent me this link. This is exactly why I’ve always been contemptuous of Philippine politics.

She can deny knowing the vendor who gave out the bracelets; it has always worked, given the country’s current justice system. But why else would a political aspirant roll down the windows of her car and flash the “L” sign if she didn’t have a hidden agenda. Better yet, why take a car when everybody else is walking? How do you think GMA’s predecessor won?

Oh, you are sooooo screwed. Tsk.

Was it all yellow?

I just thought I’d share this. It’s a song written by my uncle a few decades ago entitled “Maynila”.

Back then, whenever my folks would listen to it, I get lost trying to find its meaning, being a kid and all at that time. I’d usually forward it to the next song which I found to be more amusing. A few years before that, I vaguely remember being smothered with all kinds of yellow paraphernalia that had the name “NINOY” on them; made to stand in one corner, and have my picture taken by my uncle or my dad. It’s one of the few memories that I managed to dig up from the deepest recesses of my mind. Here’s a photo I found somewhere deep within my grandmother’s baul:

You lost me at “Democracy Icon”

I’m reposting a letter (not only because I don’t have anything good to write about) to ABS-CBN News by a friend regarding a poorly written article. I actually have read the article yesterday and noticed the errors, but what she pointed out in her letter was more than just the typo. Read on.

Bombs, politics, crappy news and other things from 2007…

I promised myself that I’d be more faithful to my blog this year.

Last year, I was able to post at least two entries per month. The lack of a coherent, continuous, day-to-day account was probably caused by me being able to do something aside from ranting and hoping and… well, you know the rest. I also realized that you tend to write more when you’re emotionally challenged (and a good-for-nothing, worthless, living-off-mom’s-savings) bum. Thanks to my job, I got to buy a lot of new stuff to keep me occupied and almost forget all about writing. (For the record, I love my job.)

To start the year right (18 days late), here’s my take on the on-going “network wars” between GMA7 and ABS-CBN…

…nah. Too overrated. And besides, I’m too busy to care about some lousy statistic. I say f*ck them both. Just this afternoon, I saw two news vans from both networks. I saw the other driver walk to the other van, half-expecting something short of homicide. Turned out what seemed to be a friendly cigarette break while waiting for the reporters to return from their beats.

What about the second failed Coup attempt? That’s history repeating itself too early. Waaaay too early.

The Glorietta blast - Terrorism? Negligence? The Ayalas say its a bomb, Police say its vaporized crap. I’m going for the latter. What about the one from the Batasan complex that happened a week later? That’s called “trying to continue the trend”.

Erap’s prosecution, conviction and pardon, the last two both being accomplished under the same year? That’s just plain stupid. Why convict someone and then pardon him after all of these years of fighting for it? Everything turned out to be big waste of time and effort. Could it be because somebody’s trying to get the majority vote in the upcoming elections? I read from somewhere that it didn’t even nudge the satisfaction survey (I hate statistics). Here’s an excerpt from an article I found on gmanews.tv (DISCLAIMER: Does not constitute me being pro-GMA7):

“If you set him free, why did we file charges against him in the first place? What were we up in arms about? Then it seems that the pardon was already in the pipeline. This will set a bad example for our children,” said Singson in Filipino.

Politics is one bloody, sneaky, dubious business to get into… so I’ll shut my mouth now. Curiosity killed the cat… probably dug its hole, too. And this is something I’m not really good in writing about (READ: Would-be bashers, don’t bother).

This is probably the reason why I don’t blog much about current events. Its all the same sh*t everyday. When watching the News, I often feel like putting the TV on mute and then just dub the whole thing. I suddenly remembered why I’m okay with not having TV around the house.

But I can’t really complain, it’s free, fun and entertaining. Information has never been more hilarious. Cheers to a year of lousy news.

Happy New Year, blog.
